<image:title>Home - Tulocay is one of the oldest wineries in Napa Valley. Founded in 1975 by Bill Cadman, Tulocay has been acknowledged by Napa Valley insiders and old-timers as having a style that represents Napa before it became “Beverly Hills-ified.”</image:title>

<image:title>Visit - Together, Bill and Brie continue to craft one of Napa's best hidden gems. I was lucky enough to discover them after a colleague's recommendation, and they are now on my list of "Napa's Best and Friendliest.” The drive to their home & winery grants a view into Napa's back-road wineries. Another winery I would happily send any wine country visitors.</image:title>

<image:title>People - BILL CADMAN, FOUNDER/CFO (Chief Forklift Operator, emeritus)</image:title>
<image:caption>Bill moved to Napa in the early ‘70s, when California wines were just starting to be taken seriously, and began his career by operating the crushers at Charles Krug, continuing on to enjoy a long history in the industry, working for Joe Heitz, Clos du Val, and Robert Mondavi. In 1975, after consuming copious amounts of wine with friends one evening, he made the decision to open a winery himself, noting that the old chicken houses on his property would be a perfect location for it. Rebuilding the houses himself, he’s been operating the small winery ever since. The first wine he produced was a stellar 1975 Pinot Noir from the Haynes Vineyard, and he’s used the grapes every vintage since then.</image:caption>

<image:title>People - BRIE CADMAN, OWNER/WINEMAKER</image:title>
<image:caption>Born and raised in Napa, Brie has been working on the Tulocay bottling line since she could see over the Italian wooden labeling blocks. She learned a lot there—how to cuss like a sailor, tell a dirty joke, and keep quiet about being a child laborer. She managed to escape to U.C. Berkeley where she earned her bachelor’s in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and a few years later returned for her Master’s in Public Health/Epidemiology. Brie has done everything from bench science to studying air pollution in the Guatemalan highlands to writing and editing. Finally she returned to Napa, and put her science background to work studying winemaking at the Napa Valley College and working with wine consultant/mentor Mark Bunter at Tulocay. Up until 2019 she was the Associate Winemaker at Judd’s Hill, and now is the winemaker at Tulocay (and the social media manager and wine club manager and whatever-else-needs-to-get-done manager).</image:caption>
