The grapes for this blend come from Gary Lessing’s vineyard in St. Helena, located right on Zinfandel Lane. Sustainably farmed and meticulously managed, we were lucky enough to get just a couple barrel’s worth of grapes. The blend is comprised of 65 percent Cab and 35 percent Merlot. While Cab is usually more structured and powerful than fruit-forward and soft Merlot, the grapes from this vineyard play opposite parts—the Cab more angular and lean, and the Merlot rich and plush. We find they come together with wonderful balance and integration, complementing each other instead of trying to steal the spotlight (you know how Cab grapes can be!). The result is an immensely approachable yet serious wine, one that will shine with your next meal.
