Vineyard
This Zinfandel hails from a vineyard on Silverado Trail, in Calistoga, planted in the 1990s by Paul Saviez. The budwood for this vineyard came from the old-vines at Morosoli Vineyard and the resultant wine is a classic Napa Valley Zinfandel: luscious, fruit-forward, with a smoky and spicy undertone.
Winemaking
After a hand harvest, we destemmed and crushed the fruit into tank, where it underwent a two-week fermentation with twice daily pumpovers, sometimes aerative. The wine was pressed in a traditional vertical basket press, and aged in neutral oak. The wine was racked two to three times a year during elevage and bottled after 23 months in barrel.
Winemaker’s Notes
The 2019 Zinfandel is immediately alluring, with luscious blackberry and plum fruit, a smoky undertone, and spice on the nose. Medium-bodied, juicy and bright on the palate, with a lingering fruit finish. A classic Napa Valley Zinfandel that is both approachable and age-worthy.
